Wakatu™ is a dual-purpose hop variety from New Zealand, bred from Hallertau Mittelfrüh and a New Zealand male. It offers a balanced profile of floral and citrus aromas, particularly lime zest, making it suitable for a range of beer styles.
Released in 1988 as New Zealand Hallertau Aroma and renamed Wakatu in 2011, this triploid hop combines the noble characteristics of its German parent with the unique terroir of New Zealand. Its moderate alpha acid content and distinctive aroma profile have made it a favorite among brewers seeking versatility and flavor stability.
